Christmas Comes Early (Scott)

Since we enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving so much, we thought we'd fast forward a month and go ahead and do up Christmas, too! Last night we gathered at Laura's for some good ol' holiday cheer along with some Thanksgiving leftovers.

The real reason we got together is because, as I may have mentioned in a previous post, last night was the last time we will all be together in Olgii until January. Over the next month or so we will all be coming and going to UB at different times, so we thought we would celebrate Christmas a little early.

It was a night of Christmas music, decorations, gift exchanges, holiday jeopardy, and, of course, food. In a bit of a surprise, our friend Lauren had four packages waiting for her at the post office. When she opened them, she found an entire box of Christmas decorations from her parents. Since she doesn't really have a place of her own, she brought them to Laura's and we went to town. It was a good time.

Laura's dog, Ruthie, had puppies a few months back. With their winter coats, they are the fattest puppies I have ever seen.

Laura's hashaa family will be keeping this one. They said that Laura could name him. She is thinking of the name Bernie, after Ashlee's childhood lump-of-a-cat.

Stringing popcorn.

Some of the decorations Lauren's parents sent.

Check out the camel wool beanie that Matt got me. He also got me a couple of my favorite chocolate bars.

Lauren wasn't in town when we pulled names for Secret Santa, so the girls both got her a few gifts. I think she really appreciated the juice.

What's Christmas without a tree? Laura acquired this from a former volunteer.

Laura had a make-your-own-ornament kit.

Matt got to do the honors of topping the tree. Using some Peace Corps ingenuity, he fashioned a star out of some glittery pipe cleaners.
