While we would have definitely preferred to have celebrated Thanksgiving back home in California, the feast we Peace Corps Volunteers managed to put together in Hovd was pretty friggen' awesome. It was complete with roasted chicken, stuffing, greenbean casserole, biscuits, garlic mashed potatoes, and desserts up the ying-yang: pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cherry pie, apple pie, pumpkin bread, and even flan. We also made it an international affair -- the PCVs in Hovd invited their Swiss and Korean friends, who are also development workers just like us. The Swiss made mulled wine and flan, and the Koreans brought a couple dishes of their own: spicy horse meat and egg and jelly sandwiches -- while it was very kind of them, I stuck to the traditional Thanksgiving fare. Oh yeah, we also bought a couple bottles of Bulgarian wine -- it was called Bear's Blood. Now, I think some pictures would be appropriate.

A few of the girls were surprised when Cameron, one of the Hovd PCVs, brought this dish of garlic mashed potatoes that he prepared all on his own.

Home-made stuffing. Delicious.

Mona, one of the Hovd PCVs, really came through by spear-heading the chicken roasting. Those are Ashlee's Hello Kitty baking pans.

Laura, the baker, made no less than 6 pies. Only 4 are pictured.

Roasted to perfection.

Here's the whole spread.

Here's the flan that the Swiss made along with a bottle of Bulgarian Bear's Blood.

The Korean egg and jelly sandwiches.

A happy camper.

While we were eating, Laura read the story of the "plump and perky" turkey.

Don't forget dessert! I don't think Ashlee knows where to begin.
