Downtown Olgii

Olgii had some gorgeous weather this weekend so we took a nice walk. Here's some pictures of our new 'hood:

This is my school.

Here's our supermarket. The word "supermarket" is actually a Russian word that is used by both Kazakhs and Mongolians. Check out the alphabet. C's are S's, Y's are U's and O's, and P's are R's. Welcome to our world of confusion.

This is the bus to UB. It can take anywhere from 40 - 60 hours.

Here's Olgii's main square.

This is Ashlee's work. How appropriate that the health department is in a building the color of Pepto Bismol?

This is the school that our friend Laura teaches at. I like the statue out front. It looks like a Soviet soldier is fleeing the school in terror while holding his gun out behind him and wildly shooting.

This is the government building. Yes, that IS a statue of Lenin.
