UB Visit Continued

I think that the Peace Corps gods must have disapproved of our UB indulgences because they decided to strike Ashlee down with a nasty stomach bug.  Well, I guess if either of us are going to get sick, UB is the place to do it -- our 24/7 PC medical team is just a cab ride away.  By 9am this morning we were both in the PC office with Ashlee laid up in the sick room.  She had a few tests run and Paul, our medical officer, feels confident that it's a bad case of food poisoning -- it serves us right for eating pretty much everything in sight the past couple of days.  So yeah, we stayed in the office all day watching movies on our laptop while Ashlee recuperated.

We're back in our hotel right now.  We have one more night of comfort left and tomorrow we'll downgrade to a guesthouse.  Ashlee, if she is feeling better, will leave for Olgii on Saturday morning.  My training runs from Monday (12/15) to Saturday (12/19).  I'll be back in Olgii on Wednesday (12/23), just in time to celebrate Christmas!

More Mongolian Christmas spirit.  Actually they call them New Year's decorations.  That's Ashlee looking at an ice sculpture of Chingiss Khaan.

We found a nice pizza restaurant.  Hm, maybe this was the food poisoning culprit.

This is what happens when half a country's population lives in one city: constant, ever-present, grid-locking traffic.

The State Department Store

Mongolians seem to love the Beatles.  So does Ashlee.

An example of frustration here in Mongolia.  This is one store with two doors.  One door says "open" and the other door says both "enter" and "closed."  Both doors were locked.  Also, why are the signs all in English?

Hands-down the best hot chocolate I've had in a long time.  It even had real whipped cream!
